As usual, the journey to Monza took much longer than our GPS predicted. All went well until we left the A8 and joined the A4 which is just north of Milan. Very slow! Lots of trucks!
Finally into the city of Monza with complicated instructions from our GPS, but driving down a beautiful boulevard with stunning old homes and gardens left and right.
We passed the first gate to the park where the circuit is located (which was closed anyway with police presence) and headed to Porto di Velano as per our instructions from FJ.
When we got there, the gate was closed and a man on duty said it would not open until midday. Noel was getting quite upset as we were too big to turn around and he did not want to wait because he had "stuff" to do on the car. He had to disconnect the trailer. We turned it as much as we could on the sloping road, re-positioned the motorhome, hooked it all back up and then wondered where we would go.
In the meantime, some other Brits arrived but were also lost.
I thought we should go back but the road was one way, so we turned left and only just squeezed past some scaffolding and the drove along a narrow road. Suddenly the same Italian man from the other gate, was there in front of us waving us through a sliding gate that they had just opened. Quite obscure and totally accidental that we were there.
I found where we were on my phone and found our way to the paddocks and our correct garage!
We were not the only ones who had trouble. Similar stories.
