Noel was 4th on the grid but the clutch failed at the start. So he came out after the safety car. He quickly picked up the pace and passed one car after another although obviously having some trouble. It's a twenty minutes race and towards the end he seemed to slow and loose interest in getting further.
Anyway, he finished 7th which was a credit to him and for we spectators who knew him, quite exciting to watch. Apparently, he felt unwell as well as having no clutch and intermittent brakes. Good there was time to work on the car afterwards!
Robin Longdon won. He was in a battle most of the race with Christian Traber who came second at Monaco. Their cars are both 1960 Lola Mk 2 so it was a very even. In the end poor Christian retired with loss of oil pressure. We all stood at attention when they played God Save The Queen and cheered when Robin came back with a lovely silver plate. I photographed him with his proud 11 year old grandson.
