Once we left Denmark the traffic thickened considerably until close to Hamburg, it came to a stop because of road works. This is the same that stopped Robin and Sue on the way north. Gradually moving. Then our turn off and a sign saying it was closed. We were trying to make up our minds how to proceed, straddling the line between ausfarht and proceed ahead, when we saw other cars race past in the exit lane. At the last moment we swung right to exit. A car came speeding past us. Noel had to swerve left to avoid it. Hit a road sign, collecting the left mirror which hung down precariously. We pulled over into the roadworks area. Noel jumped out and replaced the mirror in its case. Fortunately not broken. The fast driver didn't react at all - like he never saw us.
We arrived at our campsite a few minutes before they closed the office to find that I had given them the wrong dates and they weren't expecting us. However, after many apologies in German from me, she found us a pitch.
