About the Car

1961 Gemini Mk3A Formula Junior

It was the third of nine built by the Chequered Flag organization in the UK in March 1961.

Its first race was at Goodwood on 2 April 1961 in the X111 Chichester Cup, driven by Mike Parkes.

It was purchaced by Californian Ed Leslie in October that year. It successfully competed in the US against other Formula Junior drivers such as Carroll Shelby, Roger Penske, Jim Hall, Pedro Rodriguez etc.

The car had many owners in California over 49 years. Noel finally purchased it in a very rundown state and imported to New Zealand where it was meticulously restored. It retains the original factory livery and Mike Parkes' race number "73".

The car's first New Zealand appearance was at the Amon Festival at Hampton Downs in January 2011. In February 2012, it won the Formula Junior Grand Prix in the Southern Festival of Speed.

In Perth, Western Australia, November 2012,  it won the re-enactment of the 50th Anniverary of the 1962 Australian Grand Prix in Perth, Western Australia, originally won by Bruce McLaren.

It was invited to participate in the March 2013 Leadfoot Festival; where it was the FTD for Juniors.

It has received an invitation to Goodwood Revival 2013.
