Buildup to racing in Riga

The circuit is a proper circuit this time about 20 minutes from downtown and surrounded by tall, Soviet looking tennament buildings. There is no noise control.

Scutineers always have a "specialty". This time it was seat belts. Noel's (Kim's) had to be replaced. Fortuneately, Jim Blockley had retired in Kaunas and "loaned" his seat belts. they just happened to be the same colour as the car so look good. Took a bit of installing and they are quite tight on Noel who had padded out the seat so he can reach the peddles.

Qualifying went well for Noel. However, David Watkin's (Perth) new engine burnt a hole in the piston; Niel McCrudden (Perth) received his repaired car back from Kaunas. Unfortuneately, the engine has refused to fire. Tony Olissoff (NZ) has broken the front left wheel hub. He is replacing it with a standard one that he hopes will get him through today's racing. Although Chris Drake (UK) had a misfire above 8,500rpm, it did not prevent him from being quickest front engine car by a good margine. Happy man! Bill Hemming (Melbourne, birthday today) had a battery cable terminal break which was repaired but the battery had a cell collapse. He borrowed a battery from Jim Blockley. Good that Jim and Jenny are still following us around! Malcolm Wishart (Scots) has lost 2 gears in his ERSA 6 speed gear box which he may be able to change to a spare gear box.

A busy day at the office!

Eight of us had dinner at an Italian restaurant owned by an Australian woman. Tastey food and happy atmosphere.
